How much fuel do you need for a heating season?
There is no single fuel quantity that fits every home for an entire heating season. Demand depends on building heat loss, heated area, appliance efficiency, indoor temperature, weather and whether the system also produces domestic hot water.
Start with actual previous consumption
The most useful starting point is the same building’s measured fuel consumption from previous seasons. If the appliance or fuel type changes, the old figure cannot simply be copied, but it still provides a useful scale for planning.
Account for the building and appliance
Two homes with the same floor area can have very different fuel demand. Insulation, windows, ventilation, target temperature and appliance efficiency all matter. For a new building or new heating system, use the energy certificate, design calculations or advice from a heating specialist.
You do not have to buy the whole season at once
If reliable history is unavailable, it can be sensible to begin with a smaller stock, monitor real consumption and replenish it. This reduces the risk of overbuying and lets you confirm that the selected fuel and storage arrangement work well.
