Briquettes or firewood – how should you compare them?

RUF briquettes and firewood can both be used in some manually loaded appliances, but only where the manufacturer permits the chosen fuel. Pack counts are not directly comparable because a briquette pack and a firewood net use different units.

Check permitted fuels

Read the stove, fireplace or boiler instructions first. Briquettes are dense compressed fuel, so do not assume the same firebox volume should be loaded as when using logs.

Compare order information, not pack counts

For briquettes, confirm total weight. For firewood, check net volume, wood species, log length and number of nets. Add transport cost to the delivery address before comparing quotations.

Think about storage

Briquettes need dry storage and intact packaging. Firewood also needs protection from precipitation, with airflow around the stored logs. Available storage space can therefore influence which fuel is more practical.
